Learning can and should be something we keep doing all through our life time, but we tend to think of learning as a thing that starts and ends in school. In a real world, learning should go beyond the four walls of a classroom, especially as we’re living in a world that is constantly changing.

According to a Greek philosopher Heraclitus, ‘change is the only constant in life’, which implies that the world and everything in it are always changing and the change is unavoidable. Being able to adapt and coupe with this change ensures our growth in all aspect of our life, if not we will feel left behind.

As the world keeps discovering new innovations and information, not staying updated and upgrading ones skills can limit ones growth both personally and professionally which can be avoided or corrected through continuous learning.

What is Continuous Learning?

Continuous learning is the process of getting new skills and knowledge continually over time with the aim of expanding ones’ skill set and building upon existing knowledge. Just as food is essential to our existence, so also is learning because it serves as a nourishment for our minds. Continuous learning is an indispensable tool for every individual, career and organization.

Importance of Continuous Learning

The benefits and importance of continuous learning include but not limited to the following:

  1. Relevance: the only thing needful for ignorance is to stop learning and when you stop learning you lose your relevance. To function effectively amongst this rapidly changing world of ours, one needs to keep learning new things.
  2. Builds confidence: knowledge gives you the feeling of readiness and capability. Gaining new knowledge builds ones’ confidence and make you feel more ready to take on challenges and new opportunities.
  3. New opportunities: new skills will most times unveil new opportunities and help you find more innovative ways to solve problems.
  4. Birth new ideas: exposure to new information give room for various new ideas or help you develop your own innovative side.
